Remember, the Goal Is to Improve Writing, Not to Perfect It

Compare the student’s prewriting, sloppy copy, and final copy. Look for improvements. Assess strengths and weaknesses. The writer’s growth through the experiences will be evident. Identify skills to teach or reinforce in future writing activities.

STEP 6. SHARING AND CELEBRATING: PUBLISHING

The author’s work can be published at the end of any step in the writing process. The student could share the writing with teachers, classmates, or special guests in large or small groups. Sharing may involve formal or informal viewing of the work. Choose writing selections to place in a notebook, display on walls, post on the Web, or place in the student’s portfolio. The publication is a presentation showcase of the author’s “best work.” It is time to celebrate!
